| Obverse description | Central device features the eagle of Saladin, the national emblem of the Democratic Republic of Sudan, displayed facing with wings spread, clutching a shield on its breast bearing the national colors. The eagle stands above a ribbon. The circular legend in Arabic reads above in Arabic script, with the English legend DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF SUDAN appearing along the lower periphery. The date is shown in both Western numerals (1979) and Eastern Arabic numerals (١٩٧٩) in the lower field. |
