The "Ang Bagong Lipunan" inscription — meaning "The New Society" — was mandated across Philippine currency following Marcos's declaration of martial law in September 1972, making this series as much a political instrument as a monetary one. The Seal type 2 variant distinguishes itself from the earlier Seal type 1 through a modification to the Bangko Sentral's official seal design, a change introduced mid-series without a formal public announcement.
Thomas De La Rue printed the entire run in London. The cotton-linen substrate was consistent with De La Rue specifications of the period, though Philippine notes of this era are known to be susceptible to foxing in tropical storage conditions — something collectors regularly encounter on circulated examples from this series.
