Winzeldorf is a small community in Schleswig-Holstein, and this 50 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities from 1917 onward — driven initially by a genuine shortage of small coinage, then increasingly by the philatelic market that developed around collectible local issues. Konrad Hanf of Hamburg handled a significant volume of these municipal commissions from northern German towns, producing relatively modest runs compared to the more elaborate Serienscheine of larger cities.
