The Vorschuss-Verein zu Putlitz was a cooperative credit union — the "e.G.m.u.H." suffix denoting a cooperative society with limited liability — operating in Putlitz, a small market town in the Prignitz district of Brandenburg. In 1918, with the German Reich's small-change coinage having essentially vanished from circulation due to wartime hoarding and metal requisition, thousands of local institutions across Germany issued emergency Kleingeldersatz notes under loosely supervised municipal authority. This is one of them.
Selmar Bayer was a Berlin printing house that handled substantial volumes of Notgeld work during this period, serving issuers across the Prussian provinces.
