| Obverse description | Cream-toned note printed in dark red and blue, with a fine guilloche mesh underprint in yellow-green. The design is divided into a grid of nine fields by dotted borders: the four corner fields each carry the denomination numeral '50' in bold Gothic script, while the two lateral fields read 'PFENNIG' vertically. Gut Hamfelde was a private agricultural estate in Holstein, and like dozens of similar Güter during the hyperinflation emergency of 1923, it issued its own notgeld to meet the acute shortage of small change. Estate-issued scrip of this type was redeemable only within the issuer's own economic orbit — tenant workers, estate shops, local creditors — which kept the liability contained but also made redemption genuinely uncertain for anyone outside that circle.
The Graumann reference H9.1b distinguishes this from at least one variant, suggesting minor differences in printing or paper stock across the issue run.
