Groß-Poritsch was a World War One prisoner-of-war camp in Silesia, and like hundreds of similar facilities across the German Empire, it operated its own internal scrip to prevent detainees from accumulating Reichsmark currency — money they might use to bribe guards or fund escape attempts. The system was both practical and administratively convenient: camp authorities could control purchasing power entirely within the wire.

Johannes Pässler of Dresden printed scrip for multiple camp systems during the war, suggesting a degree of commercial specialization in this niche. The Cambach listing under 3047 places this issue within a well-documented but still incompletely catalogued family of Lagergeld.
