Opmerkingen

Stützerbach, a small glassblowing village in the Thuringian Forest, issued this note during the acute small-change shortage that drove thousands of German municipalities to print their own Notgeld between 1920 and 1922. The town had a specific claim to Goethe — he visited repeatedly and used a hunting lodge there, which gave local officials reasonable grounds to brand the series around his connection to the area rather than reaching for generic imagery.

The printer, Wiedemannsche Druckerei in Saalfeld, handled a significant volume of Thuringian municipal Notgeld during this period. Designer M. Bechstein was based in nearby Ilmenau.
