Gerolstein's Eifeler Verkehrsverein — a regional tourism and transport promotion association — was among the more unusual issuers of Notgeld, producing emergency currency less out of genuine coin shortage and more as a collector-targeted side venture. By 1921 the Notgeld craze had fully tipped into Serienscheine territory, where small associations, municipalities, and civic groups printed attractive small notes knowing philatelists would snap them up and never spend them. Schaar & Dathe in Trier were active printers throughout the Rhineland Notgeld boom and handled numerous such commissions for regional clients.
