Obverse description Printed in black and red on tan paper with a fine guilloche underprint, the obverse centres on a vignette reproducing a medieval coin seal of Höxter in which Saint Vitus stands in robes within a circular Latin legend. Bold red Gothic numerals '50' flank the vignette at left and right above red foliate ornamental panels, while the issuer designation 'Stadt Höxter Notgeld' and redemption clause appear in black Gothic letterpress across the lower register, completed by a manuscript signature at the foot.
Obverse lettering Höxter-Corvey 15. Juni. St. Vitusfest Wann kompt im Sommer Sanctus Veit, so endet sich beid Tag und Zeit und wer dan hat der Pfennig vil, der mach sich auff zu diesem Ziel. 50 50 Stadt Höxter Notgeld Die Kämmereikasse löst diesen Schein ein Er wird ungültig drei Monate nach erfolgter Auf- kündigung durch den Magistrat Höxter d. 13. Mai 1921
(Translation: Höxter-Corvey, June 15. St. Vitus Festival When Saint Vitus comes in summer, then both day and time come to an end, and he who then has many pennies shall make his way to this goal. The treasury will redeem this note. It becomes invalid three months after official notice by the city magistrate of Höxter, May 13, 1921.)
Reverse description Printed in black and red on tan paper with a geometric guilloche underprint, the reverse carries bold black banners across the upper and lower registers lettered 'Fünfzig Pfennig' in white Gothic type, each flanked by red corner numerals '50'. The central field is filled with eight alternating lines of black and red Gothic text reproducing a verse inscription dated 'Anno 1560', with the designer's monogram 'K. A. Held' and a serial number at lower right and the printer's imprint in small letterpress type at the very foot.
