Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse issued its own small-denomination tokens during the notgeld period following World War I, when the catastrophic shortage of official coinage forced thousands of German merchants, transit operators, and municipal bodies to produce their own emergency currency. H. Gigling's zinc pieces from this station are among the more obscure transport-adjacent issues — catalogued in both Menzel and Hasselmann, but rarely encountered in quantity. Zinc was the default material when brass and nickel were still being rationed for industrial recovery.
