Reverse description Octagonal reverse displaying a continuous pearl border along the coin's periphery and an inner twisted rope circle enclosing the large denomination numeral '50' centered in the field. The legend 'KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE' curves around the upper annular band between the rope and pearl borders, identifying this token as a small-change substitute. Additional information

Barmen's textile sector issued its own emergency coinage during the Notgeld crisis of the early 1920s, when chronic coin shortages forced German municipalities and private firms alike to produce substitute currency. Textil-Industrie A.G. was among the Barmen industrial companies that stepped into the gap, issuing zinc pieces redeemable against wages or company store credit rather than through any public monetary authority.

Barmen itself merged with Elberfeld and several surrounding towns in 1929 to form Wuppertal, meaning all Barmen-issued Notgeld predates that administrative dissolution.
