Comments

Appen is a small village west of Hamburg, and like thousands of German municipalities, it issued its own emergency paper money — Notgeld — during the acute coin shortage that followed World War I. The Konrad Hanf firm in Hamburg handled a substantial volume of this small-community Notgeld business, printing runs for numerous Schleswig-Holstein parishes that lacked any practical access to official currency supply channels.

The DeNG 2#39.2 reference places this within the second type documented for Appen, implying at least one earlier issue — worth noting if building a complete municipal set.
