Heede was a small rural commune in the Amt Hemdingen district, and like hundreds of similar communities across Weimar Germany, it resorted to issuing its own Notgeld during the acute small-change shortage that persisted well into the early 1920s. The printer, Konrad Hanf of Hamburg, handled a considerable volume of these local emergency issues from northern German municipalities — a practical choice for communities close enough to Hamburg to manage the commission without dealing with the larger specialist firms.

Schleswig-Holstein Notgeld from communes of this size tends to survive in relatively high quantities, as collectors were actively absorbing these issues almost from the moment of printing.
