Obverse description The obverse is framed by a decorative border with two marabou storks standing sentinel on either side against red disc vignettes, their rendered forms drawn in a bold linear style. The denomination 'Fünfzig Pfennig' is inscribed in Gothic blackletter script across the upper portion, with the numeral '50' repeated in each corner within red circular cartouches. A large central text panel carries the issuing authority inscription and redemption conditions in Gothic script, while a coiled snake rendered in fine detail forms the lower border element.

Not- und Wechselgeld
Reverse description The reverse carries a full-width humorous vignette in the style of early twentieth-century caricature illustration, rendered in black line on a cream ground, showing a scene at a monkey enclosure in which a primate has snatched a lady's hat from a crowd of zoo visitors in period dress. Below the vignette, a lower panel in red contains the denomination '50 Pf.' in bold Gothic numerals flanked on each side, with a four-line comic rhyme in Gothic script occupying the central text field. The printer's imprint 'Hartung & Co. m.b.H., Hamburg' appears at the lower right margin.
