| Opmerkingen |
Halle's Zoologischer Garten was among hundreds of German institutions — municipal, private, and commercial — that issued their own Notgeld during the hyperinflationary crisis of the early 1920s, when the Reichsbank simply could not supply enough small-denomination currency to meet daily transactional demand. Zoo-issued scrip is not unusual for the period, but Halle's series has a following among Notgeld collectors specifically because of the square format, which was an uncommon choice even within a genre that actively courted novelty.
Gantz & Fuss, the Halle offset printer, handled several local Notgeld commissions during this period. Designer Dubbick is known only through this attribution.
