Hamburg's zoo notgeld series of 1922 is among the more deliberately collectible issues produced during the inflationary notgeld boom — the Zoologischer Garten pieces were designed with a secondary market clearly in mind, issued at a premium to face value and sold to collectors through the zoo's own ticket office. Whether they ever functioned as genuine small-change substitutes is debatable; most were bought as souvenirs and never tendered.

F. W. Rademacher was a Hamburg commercial printer with no particular distinction in security printing, which places this squarely in the civilian, municipal tier of notgeld production rather than anything approaching official currency.
