Ziegenhals — today Głuchołazy in southwestern Poland — issued this iron notgeld piece in 1918 as the German imperial economy buckled under wartime metal requisitions. By that year, virtually all copper and nickel had been redirected to munitions production, forcing hundreds of small municipalities to authorize their own emergency coinage in whatever base material remained available. Iron was the default of last resort.
The Funck 624.6 designation places this among a documented series for the town, suggesting multiple denominations were issued concurrently rather than this piece appearing in isolation.
