Wollin — known today as Wolin, now part of Poland — was a small Pomeranian town issuing this Notgeld at the tail end of Germany's postwar small-change crisis. The chronic coin shortage that followed the First World War forced thousands of municipal authorities to print their own emergency pfennig notes, and Otto Lang's local print shop handled this one in-house rather than contracting to one of the major specialist printers used by larger cities.
Local production of this kind typically means smaller print runs and less uniform quality control — something to watch for in the perforations and ink registration on surviving examples.
