| Beschrijving keerzijde | An outer pearl border defines the rim, with the legend 'KLEIN-GELD-ERSATZ' (small change substitute) arranged around the upper and lateral periphery. An inner pearl circle encloses the large, boldly struck numeral '50' denoting the denomination, prominently centered in the field. Three stars — alternating five-pointed and six-pointed forms — are spaced along the lower margin between the two pearl borders, serving as decorative stops. |

Wangen im Allgäu issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1918, when the wartime metal requisitions that stripped Germany of copper and nickel coinage had left municipalities scrambling to fill the small-denomination gap. Zinc was the compromise — cheap, available, and deeply unpopular with the public for its tendency to corrode and crack under even moderate circulation wear. Many Württemberg town issues from this period survived in quantity precisely because people hoarded or discarded them rather than spending them.
