50 Pfennig Verkehrsverein

Lüneburg's Verkehrsverein — essentially a local tourism and commerce association — became an unlikely currency issuer during the acute small-change shortage that plagued Germany in the early 1920s. Municipal and commercial bodies across the country filled the void left by hoarded coins, and this 50 Pfennig note is a product of exactly that improvised infrastructure. Gustav Peters was a local Lüneburg printer, not a security printing house, which is worth bearing in mind when examining paper quality and impression consistency across surviving examples.
