Beschrijving voorzijde Central vignette in a woodcut-style multicolour print shows a female figure in flowing white robes standing atop the rocky Drachenfels outcrop, one arm raised aloft, with a dragon visible among the rocks to the lower left and the Rhine River rendered in stylised waves in the background. Denomination numeral '50' appears in large red characters within yellow circular cartouches at the upper left and upper right corners. A text panel in the lower right quadrant carries the redemption notice, issuer name 'Verkehrsverein', date '15. Juli 1921', and a manuscript signature, all within a dashed rectangular border.

Beschrijving keerzijde Three-panel woodcut-style vignette in ochre and black occupies the central field: at left, the ruined church of Heisterbach set among trees; at centre, the municipal coat of arms of Königswinter — a red shield with a crenellated tower gateway and a quartered upper section bearing a cross and an eagle — surrounded by a laurel wreath; at right, the ruined towers of Drachenfels Castle on its rocky spur with clouds above. The designer's name 'Jean Bochum' appears at lower left within the vignette. A broad ochre banner across the top carries the issuer legend in red letterpress, and a matching banner at the foot carries the denomination in large red capitals. The printer's imprint 'K. Shirtz A.G. Würzburg' is at the lower right margin.

Opmerkingen

Königswinter's Verkehrsverein — a local tourist association rather than a municipal authority — issued this note during the Notgeld proliferation of the early 1920s, when virtually any German civic body could print emergency small change to compensate for the nationwide coin shortage. Tourist associations issuing currency is an odd footnote to Weimar-era monetary chaos, but Königswinter's position on the Rhine, directly below the Drachenfels, made its Verkehrsverein an active and reasonably well-funded local institution.

K. Shirtz A.G. in Würzburg handled a large volume of Notgeld commissions during this period. Jean Bochum's design credit is uncommon for this class of issue.
