Beschrijving voorzijde The central vignette presents a panoramic colour lithograph of the Hamburg waterfront as seen from the Elbe, with a large steam vessel in the foreground and the distinctive spires of the city skyline — including St. Michaelis — rising behind. The heading 'NOTWECHSELGELD' appears in bold lettering within a dark banner at the top, framed by Art Nouveau scroll ornaments at the corners. The denomination '50 Pfg' is set in large display type at the lower centre, flanked on each side by text panels bearing the validity conditions, the issuer's monogram, and manuscript signatures of board members, with the printer's imprint 'Hartung & Co. Hamburg' at the lower left and the designer credit 'Hans de Bruycker' at the lower right.

Beschrijving keerzijde The central vignette is a two-scene colour lithograph contrasting the Hauptkirche St. Michaelis (Michel) as built by Ernst Georg Sonnin between 1750 and 1762 on the left, and the same church engulfed in flames during the fire of 3 July 1906 on the right, with dramatic swirling smoke filling the sky. The heading 'NOTWECHSELGELD' repeats in the upper banner with matching Art Nouveau corner scrolls, and the denomination '50 Pfg' appears in bold at the lower centre. Below the vignette, two stanzas of Low German verse are printed in two columns, with captions 'BOOT VON E.G. SONNIN 1750/1762' and 'AFBRENNT 3. JULI 1906' identifying each scene, and the printer's imprint 'HARTLING & Co. Hamburg' and designer credit 'Alder E. de Bruycker' at the lower corners.
