Opmerkingen

This note belongs to the wave of Notgeld issued by German municipalities during the severe coin shortage that followed World War One, but Erfurt's 1921 Trachten- und Heimat-Fest series was explicitly a collector piece, not emergency currency in any practical sense. By 1921, the folk-festival Notgeld genre had become a minor industry — towns competed for philatelic sales, using themed series to generate revenue well beyond face value. Erfurt was among the more prolific issuers in Thuringia.

The "Serienschein" market collapsed almost as quickly as it inflated, and most of these notes never touched a cash drawer.
