| Reverse description | The reverse is similarly enclosed by a continuous pearl (beaded) border. The entire field is occupied by a four-line German-language proverb legend reading SPARE IN DER ZEIT SO HAST DU IN DER NOT, enclosed within opening and closing quotation marks. A small rosette or floral ornament appears above the legend at the top of the field and a matching ornament below at the base, serving as decorative stops. The flat, unadorned field lends the piece a utilitarian character consistent with its emergency currency function. |
