Lähn im Riesengebirge — now Wleń, Poland — was a small Silesian town on the Bober river whose municipal savings bank issued this Kleingeldschein during the severe coin shortage that gripped Germany after the First World War. Notgeld of this type was a local administrative response, not a financial institution acting in any broader banking capacity; the Sparkasse simply needed small change to function.
Carl Flemming & Wiskott in Glogau printed enormous quantities of Silesian Notgeld during this period, which keeps production quality consistent but collectible value modest unless the specific municipality is of regional interest.
