Rodach — a small Coburg-region town — issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1918 as the German imperial coinage system collapsed under wartime metal requisitioning. Copper and nickel had been diverted to the war economy years earlier, leaving municipal authorities across Germany to fill the void with whatever base metals remained available. Zinc was the unsatisfying answer for dozens of small issuers that year.
The Funck 449.3 designation places this among the documented varieties for Rodach's 1918 issue.
