| Obverse description | The obverse carries a bold red Gothic-script headline reading 'Notgeld der Stadt Apolda' across the top, set within a decorative hatched border. At centre, the large red numeral '50' surmounted by the city's heraldic coat of arms serves as the principal vignette, with the denomination word 'PFENNIG' printed in black letterpress beneath.
