Sonneberg was Germany's toymaking capital, and its notgeld series leaned hard into that identity. The Puppetry Series belongs to the wave of collector-targeted "serienscheine" issued in the early 1920s, when municipalities discovered that hobbyists would pay face value for notes they'd never spend — effectively an interest-free loan to the issuer.
