Plattdütsche Volksgill — the Low German Folk Guild of Lübeck — was a cultural association promoting the regional Plattdeutsch language and dialect traditions of northern Germany. Its decision to issue notgeld in 1921 was partly practical, partly promotional: the acute small-denomination coin shortage of the early Weimar years gave civic organizations an unusually legitimate reason to put their identity into circulation. W. Bräck's design credit suggests local production, consistent with the Lübeck printing attribution.

The DeNG reference places this within the second subtype of the series, indicating at least minor variant distinctions — likely in serial numbering or minor typographic elements.
