The entire design is contained within a rope or beaded border, with the Berlin Mint mark 'A' appearing at the bottom of the field below the sheaf. The composition is executed in a bold, decorative Art Nouveau-influenced Weimar-era style by engravers Oppenheim and Kullrich. |

In 1922, German industrial output was being consumed by reparations obligations under Versailles, and the Reichsbank was losing the inflation battle entirely. Several pattern compositions were tested for subsidiary coinage that year as authorities scrambled for a stable, cost-effective alloy — aluminium-plated copper being one of the more experimental proposals. It went nowhere; within months the denomination itself became economically irrelevant.
