Notgeld issued by a regional newspaper rather than a municipal authority or savings institution is unusual enough to merit attention. The Ost-Holsteinisches Tageblatt und Plöner Zeitung was a local press serving the Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein, and like many commercial enterprises during the 1920 small-change crisis, it stepped in to fill the gap left by the near-total disappearance of low-denomination coinage from circulation.
Newspaper-issued Notgeld from this period was rarely produced in large quantities, and surviving examples from minor district publishers are genuinely harder to locate than those from the larger towns that issued serially numbered collector sets.
