| Obverse description | The obverse features a plain field dominated by a central cartouche of ornate scrollwork and foliate flourishes enclosing the large numeral '50' above the denomination legend 'PFENNIG' in roman capitals. The date is split across the field with '19' to the left and '18' to the right of the cartouche. A curved legend in Fraktur script reading 'Kriegsnotgeld der Stadt' arcs across the upper portion of the field, while the issuing city name 'Ortrand' appears in Fraktur along the lower arc. Small rosette or flower ornaments punctuate the field at the cardinal positions, and the entire design is contained within a beaded inner border. |
