| Obverse description | Within a raised inner circle, the civic arms of Offenburg depict a crenellated castle gateway with flanking towers, a cross finial atop the central structure, and wavy lines below representing water. A small circular hole appears in the field beneath the castle in variety 403.1A. The circumferential legend is contained within a segmented outer border separated from the inner circle by a broad flat annular field, with maltese cross ornaments flanking the city name at left and right. |

| Additional information |
Offenburg issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1918 as the Imperial German military machine consumed virtually all available copper and nickel, forcing hundreds of municipalities to produce their own emergency coinage. Zinc was the compromise material — cheap, available, but prone to oxidation, which explains why undamaged survivors are harder to find than the original mintages suggest. The two Funck varieties (403.1A and 1B) reflect minor die differences documented among the local issues of this type.
