Additional information

Nürnberger Schraubenfabrik und Facondreherei — a screw and precision lathe-turning manufacturer — issued this zinc notgeld token during the acute small-change shortages that gripped German industry in the early 1920s. Factories routinely produced their own denominations for wage payments and canteen use when the Reichsbank could not keep pace with inflation-driven coin demand. Zinc was the material of necessity: cheap, available, and sufficiently distinct from the aluminum and iron tokens flooding the same period.
