Reverse description The reverse is printed in polychrome — black border with multicolour illustration — and carries the title 'Das Rattenfängerlied' (The Pied Piper's Song) across the top flanked by the numeral '50' at each corner. A large narrative vignette occupies the lower two-thirds, illustrating the legendary scene of the Pied Piper leading a procession of children away from the medieval town of Hameln, with a castle visible in the left background; the figure of the Piper in striped costume strides to the right playing his pipe. A stanza of verse (verse 2 of the Rattenfänger song) is printed in red Gothic script in the upper right. The caption along the lower border reads 'Der Kinderauszug anno 1284 zu Hameln.'
