| Obverse description | The municipal arms of Eisenach — a crowned armoured knight bearing a flag and a palm frond, set on a grey heraldic shield — occupies the central vignette, flanked on the left by a woodcut-style view of the Wartburg castle on its wooded hillside and on the right by the towers of the Eisenach city church. The year digits '15' and '21' appear in red on either side of the central shield, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Luther's arrival.
