Kahla's third Leuchtenburg notgeld series shows the municipality cycling through the local medieval inventory — Burg Lauenstein, a hilltop fortress in the Frankenwald, sits well outside Kahla's immediate district, which made its appearance here mildly contentious among collectors who expect stricter geographic logic from civic issues. Himmer in Augsburg was a reliable workhorse printer for southern German notgeld runs, and the watermarked paper on this issue was a modest security gesture in a period when forgery of small-denomination emergency currency was largely not worth the effort anyway.
