Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a central circular vignette bearing the civic seal of Bürgel — SIEGEL DER STADT BÜRGEL — enclosing an equestrian figure of Saint George slaying the dragon, set against a hatched guilloche background. Flanking the seal are two niched alcoves, the left containing a ceramic teapot and cup, the right a ceramic jug, both rendered as Bürgel pottery, with a silhouetted townscape and church tower visible in the middle ground. Denomination numerals '50' appear in octagonal frames at upper left and right, and the lower portion carries the serial number, date 28 Mai 1921, issuing authority text, and facsimile signature lines for Stadtgemeindevorstand and Bürgermeister.

Reverse description The reverse carries a humorous multi-figure vignette in grey-blue and orange, signed by artist Arno Grimm at lower left, showing three hunters in animated poses struggling over a hare lying on the ground — a visual pun on local Thuringian dialect. To the right, within an arched niche, stands an elderly woman in traditional dress observing a cat, captioned 'Fama'. The denomination wreath medallion with '50' in orange appears at upper centre, suspended by orange ribbons, and the full-width lower panel bears the inscription in Fraktur script.
