| Reverse description | Tripartite composition in blue, red and black letterpress on cream stock. The wide central vignette portrays a medieval crowd scene of the Imperial Diet (Reichstag) held at Arnstadt under Otto the Great in 954, with mounted and armoured figures amid a walled fortification rendered in an expressive woodcut-like style. Flanking the central scene are two tall upright panels, each containing a full-length figure of a bishop or emperor in ceremonial vestments rendered against a blue ground; the denomination numeral '50' appears in blue and red at the lower corners. A pink cartouche scroll at the bottom bears the inscription '- 954 - / Der Reichstag in Arnstadt / unter Otto dem Großen' in Gothic script. |
