Obverse description A panoramic vignette of Neustadt as it appeared in 1650, after Merian, runs across the upper portion of the note. Below, three cartouches depict trade guild emblems: crossed shears with a thimble at left inscribed 'Tucher' (clothiers), the town coat of arms with a castle tower and lion on a foliate ground at centre, and two lions flanking a tanning barrel at right inscribed 'Gerber' (tanners). The denomination '50 Pf' appears in large numerals at lower left and right, flanking the issuing text and facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister, with the printer's imprint 'Druck: Johannes Arndt, Jena' at the foot.
