Obverse description A panoramic vignette of Neustadt as it appeared in 1650 after Merian occupies the upper register. The central field is divided into three panels: the left panel bears the legend "Tucher" above crossed shears and tools on a dark ground; the central panel presents the city coat of arms — a twin-towered gateway surmounted by a cross, with a lion passant below, set against a stylised foliate underprint in green; and the right panel bears "Gerber" above two rampant lions flanking a tanning vat. The lower border carries the denomination "50" in large numerals at each side, with the issuing authority, validity clause, date "Neustadt / 1.9.21", and the facsimile signature of Bürgermeister Gerhard centred between them.

Reverse description A full-field multicolour vignette portrays two tradesmen in early 16th-century costume — identified by the caption as a cloth-worker (Tuchknappe) and a tanner (Gerber) of circa 1500 — standing before the imposing Gothic town hall of Neustadt an der Orla, rendered in a bold woodcut-style letterpress technique. Grape vine foliage appears at the upper left, and church spires rise above the roofline in the background. The lower border panel carries the inscription "Notgeld der Stadt Neustadt/Orla" flanked by the denomination numeral "50" in red at each corner, with the printer's imprint below.
