Obverse description Central field features the armorial shield of Heidelberg displaying a rampant lion in bold relief against a crosshatched ground, set within a shaped heraldic cartouche. The circular legend STADTGEMEINDE, separated by five-pointed stars, arcs across the upper periphery, while HEIDELBERG follows along the lower periphery. A small round hole is punched through the lower portion of the field, characteristic of this Kriegsgeld issue. The design is rendered in a robust, utilitarian style typical of German municipal emergency coinage of the First World War era.
