The Inspektion der Kriegsgefangenenlager im Bereich des III. Armeekorps administered camps across the Brandenburg military district, and scrip of this kind was a deliberate control mechanism — prisoners were paid in camp currency that could only be spent at the canteen, preventing the accumulation of Reichsmark that might fund an escape. The 50 Pfennig denomination sits at the higher end of the typical PoW scrip range for this district.
Ambrosius & Co. in Kirchhain handled a number of similar contracts for camp issues across Prussian-administered territory during the war. The printer's proximity to the camps it served was not coincidental.
