Graudenz issued this note in 1919 under acute political pressure — the city's status was actively contested during the Paris Peace Conference, and it would be formally transferred to the new Polish Republic later that year under the Treaty of Versailles. Notgeld from this transitional window carries a particular weight: the issuing Magistrat was administering a city it was about to lose.
At 46 × 27 mm, this is among the smaller Notgeld pieces of the period, almost certainly a function of paper economy rather than design intent.
