Vorderseitenbeschreibung The central vignette presents a panoramic waterfront scene of Gothmund with fishing boats moored along the shore and a tree-lined village silhouette in the background, printed in blue and black tones. Flanking the central panel are two full-length folk figures in traditional fishermen's attire — a male fisherman at left and a woman carrying goods at right — rendered in a woodcut-style illustrative technique. The lower portion carries a red-bordered text panel with the denomination numeral '50' in blue at each corner, above the printer's imprint 'H. G. Rahtgens, Lübeck' at the base.

Rückseitenbeschreibung The central vignette illustrates a group of fishermen hauling nets from a sailing vessel on open water, with additional sailboats visible on the horizon beneath a cloud-filled sky rendered in horizontal line work, all printed in blue and black. The lateral borders carry decorative foliate ornamental panels in black, each surmounted by a bust portrait of a bearded mariner in profile — one facing right, one facing left — in a woodcut manner. Low text panels at lower left and lower right carry Low German verse quotations attributed to Klaus Groth, with the caption 'FISCHER, NETZE EINZIEHEND' beneath the central scene and the monogram 'W.G.' at lower right.

Anmerkungen

Gothmund was a small fishing village on the Trave estuary, administratively separate from Lübeck until absorption in 1935. Its notgeld issues are among the more locally specific of the Weimar-era emergency series — the "Fischermeister" designation points directly to the village's guild structure, where a Fischermeister held formal authority over fishing rights on the river. That this tiny community issued its own scrip at all reflects how thoroughly the 1920–1922 inflation crisis atomized monetary administration down to the parish level.

Printed by H. G. Rahtgens, a Lübeck press responsible for several regional notgeld series, which kept production costs low through shared typographic infrastructure.
