Obverse description The octagonal field displays the municipal coat of arms of Elmshorn at center, depicting a crenellated city gate with towers above a sailing vessel on water, rendered in relief against a plain field. A continuous pearl border frames the inner design, with the circular Latin legend reading outward between the pearl rim and the edge. A decorative rosette ornament appears at the base of the legend, separating the inscription. The overall composition is characteristic of German notgeld emergency coinage issued during the World War I era.
