Comments

The Mansfeld region's copper mining industry collapsed almost overnight after 1918, and the resulting cash shortage drove merchant associations across the district to issue their own scrip. This 50 Pfennig note comes from a purchasing cooperative — an "Einkaufsvereinigung" — rather than a municipality or savings bank, which makes it relatively unusual among Notgeld of the period; most retail-sector issues were coordinated through chambers of commerce, not independent cooperatives. J. C. König & Ebhardt of Hannover, primarily known as a bookbinding and stationery manufacturer, printed a substantial volume of provincial Notgeld during the 1919–1922 inflation years.
