The Eifelverein is a hiking and nature preservation society founded in 1888, still active today. During the hyperinflationary spiral of the early Weimar Republic, dozens of civic organizations, municipalities, and private associations issued their own emergency small-change notes — Kleingeldscheine — when official coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Ortsgruppe Speicher is the local chapter based in Speicher, a small town in the Eifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Lütgens of Cologne was a regional commercial printer responsible for a considerable number of Notgeld issues across the Rhineland, with no particular distinction in the series beyond competent jobbing work.
