Reverse description An outer pearl border follows the octagonal periphery of the coin, enclosing a boldly rendered Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) that fills the central field. The date '1917' is divided across the lower arms of the cross, with '19' to the left and '17' to the right, integrated naturally into the design. The flared, concave arms of the Iron Cross are rendered in relief with crisp, angular lines, evoking the wartime patriotic symbolism widely used in German Notgeld of the period. The field between the pearl border and the cross arms is plain.
