The Deutscher Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser was the largest veterans' organization in Weimar Germany, drawing its membership primarily from former soldiers of the Imperial Army. The Kyffhäuser monument in Thuringia — where the organization took its name — had become a charged symbol of nationalist myth and Hohenzollern commemoration well before the war. By 1921, in the teeth of the postwar inflation that was rapidly destroying small-denomination coinage, the organization issued its own emergency scrip, joining the vast flood of Notgeld produced by municipalities, businesses, and institutions across Germany that year.

Whether these circulated beyond the organization's own membership events and chapter halls is unclear, but the issuing body had over three million members at its peak.
